opiniones y posibles soluciones a diferentes problemáticas sociales y
educativas.
salud mental?».
Santiago se tomó su tiempo para responder:
“Social media is a
double edged sword. There’s a lot of things we can do with social media, there
are so many things that it can help on; it’s a tool, but the problem with tools
is that if you give a human a tool you can use it to either do right or do
wrong, that’s where we get the problem.
Social media has so much space for information and so
much space for helping people and informing people, and just… It has so much
potential.
We are the problem. We are the ones where you say it
wrong.
How could it help positively? It is already doing it.
We are already getting a lot of positive stuff from social media, but the
amount of this information, and stigma, and
stereotypes that comes
from the incorrect use of social media is so so great, that everyone agrees
that social media is bad, but it’s not.
We can start by the fact of just reaching so many
people from around the world, it’s the number one method of information and
communication, and yet we are using it for so much bad stuff.
We could use it to just spread the information, the
correct information around so everyone is aware of what mental health is, and
we can potentially even reach people that currently have mental health
problems, and target those people, and just tell them what to do and help them
out, but the problem with that is that there’s so much margin of error because
we have to rely on these people that we don’t even know. So, social media right
now is a waste.
How can we better it? How can we make a good use out
of social media? It’s simple: we have to make formal information sources. We
just need to make sure that all the information that is given about mental
health is real verified professional information and from people that actually
know about the topic, and if somebody needs to get some sort of help, they need
to be able to reach someone legit, someone that actually knows what they’re
talking about.
This creates so many problems, and one of the problems
is actually massive: The glorification of mental health. It feeds both
disinformation and stigma. So, please be mindful of what you do on social
media. It has so much potential, and yet you’re wasting it. This is information, so please, consider it.”
